War in Ukraine/Tourism helps: New accommodation portal supports Ukrainians fleeing the war
Millions of people in Europe are experiencing the worst suffering and are rapidly escaping the country to find a safer place. For this reason, numerous tourism partners have joined forces to support those fleeing Ukraine. A new portal, touristik-hilft.de, has just been launched, which offers accommodation for those urgently in need of a safe place to stay.
The new website, “touristik-hilft.de” was launched within a few days. Here, people can register suitable accommodation for Ukrainians fleeing the war zone. Information such as type and size of accommodation, location and other details are displayed. Users can search and filter accordingly based on these criteria, so housing for larger families can be found more quickly. Currently, the focus is on free accommodation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, however different regions can also be entered. Volunteers or the people from Ukraine can contact the accommodation providers to personally align the next steps. For now, the site is available in German and English and is aimed at volunteers who support Ukrainians seeking a safe place. The functionality of the platform is to be continuously extended. However, due to the pressing urgency of the current situation, the first version of the website has been launched as is for the time being – as accommodation support is needed right now.
The development and operation of the website is led by Ralf Usbeck, along with the team at Peakwork, the travel IT specialist, based in Düsseldorf, and in cooperation with the Essen-based software developers at IT square. The list of partners supporting the project is growing daily and can be viewed on the site www.touristik-hilft.de.
Among the first touristic partners are A3M, ab in den urlaub, Aida, Alltours, Arosa, ASR, bd4travel, BDO, Bentour, Bewotec, DER Touristik, DRV, Eurowings Holidays, Falkensteiner, fluege.de, FTI Touristik, FVW/Travel Talk, Giata, Holidaycheck, Holidays.ch, Hotelplan, HSMA, Interchalet, Interhome, IT-Square, Lufthansa Holidays, Midoco, Peakwork, Sabre, Schmetterling, Traffics, trendtours, TUI, Verein engagiert, VIR und Vtours.
Ralf Usbeck, responsible for the website and CEO at Peakwork, said: "I hope that together with the tourism industry, we can reduce some of the suffering for the many children, women and men from Ukraine through this initiative. Our thanks go to the many partners and the team who are all passionate to help and have offered their support." He added: "We are now going live with a faster version of the website – as the quicker we can share the detail with those in need, the quicker we can help. "
Companies and individuals who would like to support the project can find more information and contact details on the website www.touristik-hilft.de.
